It didn't come home (entry no.30)

Nearly two weeks later and I am back! I took an unintentional break from my entries simply because I wasn't really in the mood to write. For once I decided not to force myself into doing something I didn't want to do. That being said, I actually had to re-read the last entry I posted since I had no idea what I last wrote about. Now I remember talking about the England vs Switzerland game which at the time had not happen yet. I watched the first half with a friend of mine at a sports bar and it was pretty uneventful, it ended 0-0. Then it went 1-0 for Switzerland in the second half but my guy Bukayo didn't let things stay that way for too long. It was then 1-1 all the way until the end of extra time meaning that we were in for a penalty showdown.

England is notorious for losing in shootouts so I was supppppeeeeerrr nervous. I was especially nervous for Bukayo given what happened to him in the last Euro's penalties. I recorded my reactions to each penalty for my sister and dad since I was home alone watching the game. There was a lot of gasping and screaming on my part but luckily all went well and England was through to the semi-finals. I was then devastated when I realized that I would have to start work then next Wednesday at 2:45 when the game between England and the Netherlands was set for 3:00. I was frantically checking my phone at work that day, the score was 1-1 for soooooo long.

Now picture this, it was the 86th minute of the game and I get told that I can go on a 10 minute break. The score is 1-1 and I am sitting in our cafeteria with a bunch of strangers in front of a small muted TV. We enter stoppage time and 30 seconds in something magical happens. The one and only Ollie Watkins scores a spectacular goal sending England straight into the finals against Spain. I was ecstatic. Back to back finals in the Euros! Completely unheard of for England. But there's one problem... they have to face Spain who have had a perfect record at the Euros. They have to face the wonder kids Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams along with seasoned players like Morata and Rodri.

Can they do it? Did they do it? Surely you as well as the rest of the world already know the answer. Back to back Euro finals and back to back Euro heartbreak for England. The Harry Kane curse is so real and I am so scared that Saka will inherit this curse since he can't even seem to catch a break with Arsenal and the Premier League. Seeing him cry at the end of the Euro finals truly did break my heart, although I do recognize and acknowledge the fact that Spain was the better team. Once again the English team is coming home but football is not, tis the story of my life as an England fan. Actually, tis the story of my life in general, believing in things and people far more than I logically should.
