Um frango e um gato (entry no.34)

The European adventure continues. Let me catch you up to speed, it is boiling hot and there is not a cloud in the sky. I don’t mind the heat in this part of Europe because there is no humidity and believe me it makes a BIG difference. The food has been great, regardless of whether or not it is traditional. For example, we went to Spain a few days ago and had Lebanese food. It was probably the most delicious lamb I have ever had. Then there was another day when we ate Argentinian food and once again it was absolutely delicious. Currently we are staying in a beach town in Portugal, the house we rented is literally right in front of the ocean.

Yesterday we went swimming and spent the whole day by the beach. I forgot how much I missed the ocean, the salty water and soft sand, it’s something you can’t compare. This morning we took it easy since I needed to be at the house and have access to a computer around noon because that’s when my college schedule came out. I had to access it today because for today only I was able to swap out courses and adjust my schedule. I ended up organizing myself to get both Thursdays and Fridays off of school. I’m gonna have four days off of school every week! The only downside is that I now have three 8 AM classes from Monday to Wednesday but I suppose that I will just have to get used to it.

It’s been almost four months since I last step foot on campus. I’m scared that I’ve forgotten how to drive there but I’m sure it will come back to me the second I start my commute. But that’s enough talk about school, I want to live in the moment and take in everything Portugal and Spain has to offer. Both countries are so beautiful but I think Portugal is my favourite of the two. Spain is beautiful and the food is amazing but the people themselves are not very welcoming. Meanwhile, people are so much friendlier in Portugal. And although there is not as much history as there is in Spain, there is still so much to see and do.

For example, today we went on a boat ride and saw dolphins, coasts, and caves. It was so beautiful and the weather was perfect. We even jumped off the boat and swam in the middle of the ocean! I’m seriously considering the possibility of moving here sometime in the future. Of course, that would mean learning to speak and read in Portuguese. I’ve been learning a few words here and there but it is very different from Spanish. I joke around saying that Portuguese sounds like a drunk person trying to speak Spanish. However, with enough time and effort I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it. For example, Chicken in Portuguese is “frango”, you see that! I’m practically fluent already!
